Actor Johnny Depp was born on June 9, 1963, in Kentucky, USA. He moved to Florida at the age of seven, dropped out of high school at 16, and began his career as a musician. He then turned to acting at the urging of Nicolas Cage. He gained worldwide recognition in 1990 with "Edward Scissorhands," a film about a young girl's love affair with an artificial human with scissors for hands. He subsequently appeared in highly auteur-driven films that set him apart from mainstream Hollywood, such as "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993), which depicts the bond between family, and "Ed Wood" (1994), a film about the life of Ed Wood, often called the worst director of all time. In 1997, he made his directorial debut with "Brave."
