MoonStar originated in 1873 as "Tsuchiya Tabi Store," opened by Kurata Unpei in Yoneyamachi, Kurume City. In 1894, the company adopted German-made sewing machines and expanded from a cottage industry to factory production. Research into tabi socks began in 1920, and production began two years later. Then, in 1925, sneakers and rubber boots were developed, marking the start of MoonStar's history as a full-fledged shoe manufacturer. 2013 marked the 140th anniversary of the company. We continue to grow as a group of artisans capable of producing everything in-house, from rubber refining, cutting, and sewing to shoe lasts and machinery used in our factories. Our accumulated skills, inherited aspirations, and pride in weaving the history of footwear continue to live on today.
