■ "Hibi" by Fukase Masahisa
"Hibi" is one of Fukase Masahisa's final works.
Between 1990 and 1992, he photographed cracks in the ground along his daily commute, burned them onto prints, and then colored each one himself. In February 1992, this work was exhibited at his solo exhibition "Private Scenes '92" at Nikon Salon, along with other works from the series "Private Scenes," "Bukubuku," and "Delirious."
Four months later, he fell down the stairs in Shinjuku's Golden Gai district, suffering brain damage and bringing his career as an artist to an end. He passed away in 2012, but his legacy remains enduringly captivating.
