At Isetan Shinjuku, ARLNATA, created by former luxury brand designer Teranishi Shunsuke, will open for a limited time from February 20th to March 2nd in the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building 1st Floor Promotion area as part of a project to promote new value in traditional techniques. Utilizing his track record and experience as a designer and pattern maker, he creates patterns using approximately 38cm x 13m of kimono fabric, and the clothes are carefully finished at a top-class Japanese atelier that also handles Japanese sewing, proposing a new form of luxury that is unique to Japan using traditional techniques.

During the event, we will have a selection of approximately 80 pieces of Ushiku Tsumugi, a kimono fabric that Mr. Teranishi has fallen in love with, and as well as having kimonos tailored, we will also be taking orders for clothing designed by Mr. Teranishi using the Ushiku Tsumugi fabric (four styles for men and four styles for women). We also have ready-to-wear items for both men and women, such as dresses, knitwear, and shirts, so we're introducing spring/summer items that you can wear right away.

ARLNATA was founded by Shunsuke Teranishi, who has previously designed for luxury brands.

After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Kyoto University, he joined YOHJI YAMAMOTO. He then moved to Milan, Italy, where he gained experience at CAROL CHRISTIAN POELL and AGNONA, a subsidiary of ZEGNA. He then joined HERMÈS and moved to Paris, France. In 2018, Shunsuke Teranishi returned to Japan and launched ARLNATA. Utilizing his experience as a designer and pattern maker, he creates clothing from approximately 38cm x 13m of kimono fabric. He travels to various kimono-producing regions in Japan to discover materials, focusing on Ushiku Tsumugi (*), a traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture. Using these carefully selected fabrics, Teranishi combines his designs with the world's top-class techniques of his domestic ateliers to create clothing that showcases new value in traditional techniques and a uniquely Japanese form of luxury.
*Ushiku Tsumugi: A tsumugi fabric that has been passed down for over 800 years at the foot of Mt. Hakusan in Shiramine, Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. A cocoon made by two silkworms working together is called a "tama-mayu" and is extremely rare. This precious tama-mayu cocoon is used to create 100% silk kimono fabric.

Background to the birth of 《ARLNATA》

ARLNATA is a coined word that combines "ARATA" (new) and "ANATA" (you). It represents our desire to grow this circle together with each and every one of you involved with ARLNATA. At Premiere Vision, a world-famous textile exhibition in Paris, I was captivated by the rich colors of Japanese kimono fabrics simply hanging on the wall. This beauty inspired me to create ARLNATA, a project to explore ways to preserve and promote this precious, handed-down heritage of Japan in a way that suits modern lifestyles.
