In the autumn season in Minami-Aoyama, a bustling art and design district, INTERSECT BY LEXUS - TOKYO (hereinafter INTERSECT) will host the exhibition "A Room in The Room" by artist Ryu Itadani (Ryu Itadani Ryuichiro) from October 23, 2020.
"A Room in The Room" is a work in which Ryu Itadani visits the venue every day and paints on a three-dimensional object, gradually completing the space. Several pure white boxes are placed in the room, and these three-dimensional objects are then painted onto the canvas. This is Ryu Itadani's first attempt to paint on 3D objects and live-stream the process of his work. Only a live performance can offer visitors the opportunity to witness up close the moment Ryu Itadani's signature freehand lines are created and his breath as he drips the paint. Visitors to INTERSECT during the production period will have the opportunity to interact with Ryu Itadani, and the conversations and experiences that arise will influence the artist's inspiration and change the final form. Ryu Itadani's "A Room in The Room" is a project that aims to engage with the artist without a plan, while also allowing for a fun and engaging experience. Stay tuned to see what the finished work will be. The work is scheduled for completion on November 3rd, and even after completion, the space will remain open for use as a cafe.

Ryu Itadani／Ryuichiro Itadani
Born in Osaka in 1974. Having lived in Osaka, Toronto, Tokyo, and London, Ryu Itadani currently creates works that focus on landscapes and objects as their themes. Rather than capturing his subject from the shadows cast by a three-dimensional object, he creates his works by cutting out its outlines with freehand lines and reconstructing them. His motifs are the cities he lives in or has visited. They include plants he sees while passing by, flowers on the table, favorite stationery and household items, etc. While presenting his work in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and art fairs both in Japan and abroad, he also undertakes much commissioned work for newspapers, magazines, advertisements, etc.

There is no one in this "room." There are many things there. Old and new, Eastern and Western, expensive and cheap, breathable and non-breathable. I hope to be able to bring to light the image of its owner from the many objects in this room, where different elements bustle and intersect.
