Apr 23, 2025
Ferragamo celebrates the regenerative beauty of the earth by developing ready-to-wear and accessory collections that emphasize natural materials and Italian craftsmanship, and will launch the "Back to Earth Capsule Collection" that combines sustainable materials with Italian craftsmanship in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22. This collection is a women's and men's collection that combines design and craftsmanship, born from the harmony of ethics and aesthetics, function and form, and reaffirms Ferragamo's goal of high quality and greater luxury.

The conceptual exploration that began with the Sustainable Thinking exhibition at the Ferragamo Museum in Florence in 2018 reaches maturity with the Back to Earth capsule collection. This is more than just a collection; it is an emotional and sensory journey into the materials, colors and Italian soil that are so precious to Ferragamo. A creative heritage that continues to inspire choices today. During the Autocratic era, when scarcity of precious materials like leather forced creators to find alternatives, Salvatore Ferragamo experimented with natural and innovative materials, turning necessity into an opportunity for research and creativity. This instinct not only defined his style, but also anticipated his responsible, progressive approach to fashion.

The Back to Earth collection features cotton and silk for ready-to-wear and vegetable-tanned leather for accessories. Fabrics are innovatively dyed and printed using mineral powders such as marble, natural earth pigments, and vegetable charcoal. All of the cotton used is sourced within Italy, grown on the farms of Puglia and Sicily.

The collection also features the iconic Ballerina model, featuring a vegetable-tanned leather upper with a natural rubber sole. Additionally, the Hug bag will be reinterpreted as part of Ferragamo's Circularity Hackathon, a new initiative in which Ferragamo challenged 60 young creative minds to reinvent the brand's most iconic products with a sustainable perspective. This limited-edition Hug bag is crafted exclusively from vegetable-tanned leather sourced in Italy. The leather has been certified "Gold" by the Leather Working Group (LWG), an international nonprofit organization established to promote an environmentally responsible leather industry, and is produced in factories that meet environmental and social standards.

Some of the leather used in the openwork of the bag has been repurposed and repurposed into a floral charm, adding a touch of elegance to the bag's décor. The interior pouch is reversible and removable, allowing for easy interchangeability. The bag is lined with certified organic silk and cotton. The design of this bag is inspired by the Kimo sandals, created by Salvatore Ferragamo in 1951. Just as the Kimo sandals were versatile with interchangeable socks, the Hug bag can be transformed to suit any occasion.

The collection will be available on Earth Day, April 22, 2025, on the Ferragamo official website and at the Ferragamo Ginza, Ferragamo Isetan Shinjuku, and Ferragamo Hankyu Umeda stores. The collection's special packaging also embodies the brand's values and the essence of the collection, using recycled paper, cotton, and wood from responsibly managed forests.
