Fashion icon Stella McCartney appeared at the "Mitsukoshi Isetan Mirai Award Talk Show: Peace de Mirai 2025 - Colouring the Future of Fashion" held at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo on March 19th. She spoke about sustainable fashion and nurturing the next generation alongside Environment Minister Keiichiro Asao and Isetan Shinjuku General Manager Shota Kondo.

The event was part of Isetan Shinjuku's "think good campaign," launched in 2021, with the aim of realizing a sustainable society and a colorful and prosperous future. This year, as part of its cultural heritage initiative, the brand is collaborating with the next generation of fashion leaders, planning the "Mitsukoshi Isetan Mirai Award," in which fashion school students create pieces using leftover fabrics and other materials collected from various companies.
During the talk show, Stella McCartney touched on the sustainable fashion initiatives she implements within her own brand and the changes required for the future of the fashion industry. "The fashion industry is currently at a major turning point. Not only do we need to reduce our environmental impact and use sustainable materials, but we also need to change our perspective and innovate with a vision that looks one step ahead," she said. Particularly striking was her comment on the importance of nurturing the next generation, adding, "What's needed is knowledge and the ability to take action. It's important to start something."
As awareness of a sustainable future spreads, Stella McCartney's message is sure to be encouraging for the next generation of innovators, beyond the fashion industry.
In addition, a campaign will be held at Isetan Shinjuku from April 9th, during which 21 award-winning works will be exhibited in the store's show window.
