On July 28, 2020, a new public art piece, "Shibuya Compass | Bee's Universe," will be unveiled in Shin-Miyashita Park, a new landmark in Shibuya, Tokyo, a city of diversity.

DESIGNART, which promotes the spread of public art, is a joint venture between the Shibuya Tourism Association, Shibuya Television, and the In collaboration with Shibuya Future Design, we produced artist Yasuhiro Suzuki's permanent public art piece, "Shibuya's Compass | Hachi's Universe." This piece will become a new Shibuya spot, creating connections between countless people for many years to come.

"Shibuya's Compass | Hachi's Universe" Artwork Description
We designed a bench in Miyashita Park, overlooking the sky, that allows people to physically sense the direction of Shibuya Ward. The statue of Hachiko, the loyal dog, was one of the first to arrive there, gazing up at Professor Ueno, now a star. Hachiko now has a boundless "universe" of his own, a presence passed down through the world. Perhaps the imagination for others that has blossomed between animals and humans is reaching people's hearts across borders. Miyashita Park, stretching north and south along Meiji Dori, is like the "needle" of a compass, subtly indicating direction to passersby. It is my hope that through encounters with people from all over the world, from the local area to the globe, Miyashita Park will become a Shibuya compass pointing towards the future.
