[Gift] One lucky winner will receive a photo book capturing the stylish and elegant Congolese gentlemen's association, the "Sapeurs."

Jun 15, 2015

Seigensha released "SAPEURS the Gentlemen of Bacongo," a photo book that gives a full picture of the Congolese gentlemen known as the "Sapeurs," in mid-June.

"Sapeurs" are gentlemen based in the Bacongo region on the outskirts of the Republic of the Congo in Africa. They aspire to "devote everything to elegance" and wear high-end brand clothing carefully selected with their own unique fashion sense despite their limited income. Their name "SAPE" comes from the initials of "La Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes" (Society of Stylish and Elegant Gentlemen), but the colloquial term "Sapeur" is derived from that.

This book, which documents these men, is the long-awaited Japanese edition following its 2009 UK publication, which garnered considerable attention. The book features photographs of Sapeurs taken by Italian photographer Daniele Tamagni, who has been covering African communities around the world for the past few years, as well as interviews with Sapeurs conducted by Tamagni himself. It also includes a foreword by Paul Smith.

Fashion Headline will give a copy of this book to one lucky email newsletter subscriber.
