Universal Music will release the documentary film "MILES DAVIS: BIRTH OF THE COOL" (director: Stanley Nelson), which explores the true face of Miles Davis, the trumpeter who influenced rock and hip-hop, in Japan from September 4th through its film distribution brand EAST WORLD ENTERTAINMENT.

Miles, who always believed in breaking down barriers and living life as he pleased, repeatedly broke stereotypes in both his music and his personal life throughout his 65-year life, producing many classic albums, including "Birth of the Cool" (1949-50), "Kind of Blue" (1959), and "Bitches Brew" (1969).

Through rare archival footage, audio recordings, and photographs, as well as conversations with artists, family, friends, and others closely associated with Miles, this documentary uncovers the unique genius hidden behind the trumpet. Jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, who were once in Miles' band, as well as great figures from various genres, including Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, and Juliette Greco, share their insights and hidden stories about Miles.

The film was officially selected for screening at the 37th Sundance Film Festival (2019) and other film festivals around the world, where it received rave reviews. It was also nominated for Best Music Film at the 62nd Grammy Awards (2019). It will be released nationwide in Japan from September 4th at Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho, YEBISU GARDEN CINEMA, and other theaters. Ahead of the release, original merchandise such as tote bags and mugs featuring the film's main visual will also be released. ■Film Overview Documentary Film "Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool" Official Japanese Film Website: https://www.universal-music.co.jp/miles-davis-movie/ Japanese Trailer id="youtube-97919eb1fccb65604d0836c1d631462e" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6dhPzEbgoqc?autoplay=0&fs=1&rel=0" width="100%" height="390" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="">
