On January 30th, LAMARCK presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection at the Sogetsu Kaikan in Tokyo's Minato Ward. The theme was METROPOLIS (city).

The brand has consistently held shows ahead of New York and Paris fashion weeks, including its Spring/Summer 2017 show at the same venue on August 23rd last year. This season, the collection evoked a strong, feminine image reminiscent of the 1980s.

The show kicked off with a black suit. In contrast to the morning show a year ago and the daytime show last time, which evoked a walk through nature, the show featured a hologram of a nighttime cityscape, emphasizing strength and artificial beauty. While the oversized silhouettes of the 1980s are currently trending, the collection embodied strength and femininity through designs incorporating curves and fullness into mannish pieces, off-the-shoulder pieces, bra tops, and fishnet tights. The collection also incorporates avant-garde designs that use elaborate materials and details, such as cut jacquard (allegedly made from newspaper), dresses with fabric scraps, drawstrings, and designs with numerous buttons. The collection contrasts with a relaxed mood and natural transparency, blending strength with body-conscious and avant-garde elements. The suits and evening dresses, designed to embody the strength of working women, also hint at future overseas expansion. "I haven't decided when or where, but I'd like to hold a show overseas," said Morishita Shinsuke. Furthermore, brands such as Yasushi Ezumi and Hanae Mori manuscrit, who held early shows and presentations last season, will not be holding shows this season. However, Morishita commented, "We've identified issues, such as material sourcing. We want to continue this approach (leading shows and presentations overseas) in order to create our own unique expressions."
