Since its opening in June 2001, Ginza Maison Hermès' window displays have been created in collaboration with designers and artists from Japan and abroad, and as the "Hermès Theater," they have spoken to passersby about the world of Hermès.
The annual theme that forms the basis of Hermès' (HERMÔS) creations in 2020 is "The Movement of Innovation." Starting on January 29th, Ginza Maison Hermès will be showcasing a window display titled "A Beautiful Encounter" by Japanese contemporary design studio we+, as an opportunity to unveil the first wave of creations that embody the theme.

We+, a contemporary design studio founded in 2013 by Toshiya Hayashi and Hokuto Ando, is known for its installation works that focus on the phenomena and surprises hidden in the everyday, presenting viewers with new perspectives and values. The "innovation" of Hermès, expressed by these designers who have been extremely successful in recent years, is based on their idea that "the technology that creates and evolves things is innovation, but aren't the human thoughts and ideas that create those "things" and "events" themselves innovation?" Using the limited space of a window as an experimental element, which is their forte, they created a laboratory-like space.

The vibrant colors, contrasting with the inorganic atmosphere of the lab, are a metaphor for the act of "innovation." Colorful powders, suggesting various elements such as people, ideas, objects, and technology, are pushed out by screws installed within the window. Different colors meet and mix, creating unexpected hues that always offer a new look. Something meets something, combines, and something entirely new is born. It is as if the world of Hermès creations, filled with "innovation," is itself a reflection of the very essence of Hermès creations.
The window display will run until April 14th.
