Acne Studios has collaborated with sculptor Peter Schlesinger to release an art book showcasing his masterpieces and a pajama collection.
Peter Schlesinger is a ceramic sculptor from Los Angeles. After working as a painter, he has been creating organic sculptures for the past 28 years. The distinctive abstract shapes and patterns in his work are inspired by his background as a painter. In 1993, he received the Tiffany Foundation Award.
This collaboration came about as a result of Peter Schlesinger's close relationship with art director Jonny Johansson, who collaborated with the brand on its fashion magazine, Acne Paper. The art book will showcase over 150 artworks by Peter Schlesinger, spanning the years from 1980 to the present. The cover of the book, produced in Sweden, uses Japanese paper as well as rustic fabrics that highlight the materials.
Also, as Peter Schlessinger's favorite clothing is pajamas, a pajama collection made from the finest silk will be released at the same time. Jonny Johansson designed the line based on print patterns by Peter Schlessinger. The color palette was inspired by the ceramic glazes seen in Peter Schlessinger's work.
Regarding this collaboration, Peter Schlessinger commented, "His free spirit opened up possibilities and directions that I would not have seen. I believe that is the most abundant creative force."
Meanwhile, Jonny Johansson said about Peter Schlessinger, "Peter is a good friend and I have been fascinated by his work for a long time. He is very honest about everything he creates, and his work is characterized by the simultaneous coexistence of various elements: tribalism and elegance, history and modernity, ruthlessness and fragility."
The art book and pajama collection will be on sale on April 30th at five stores: Greene Street in New York, Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles, Dover Street in London, Quai Voltaire in Paris, and Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, as well as the Aoyama store in Tokyo.
