Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store will hold the grand opening of the "Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Store" in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, on September 20th. This is the first rebuild of the main building in 86 years, and it will become a new landmark in Osaka.

Shinsaibashi is one of the world's leading commercial districts, with the 44-meter-wide Midosuji Boulevard and the bustling Shinsaibashisuji Shopping Arcade, which attracts approximately 150,000 pedestrians on weekends, as well as the surrounding distinctive districts of Americamura, Minami-Senba, and Horie. With a history of nearly 300 years since its establishment in this area, the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Store, currently undergoing reconstruction, will hold the grand opening as a "department store evolving toward the world and the future."

A total of 370 stores will be located here, including 37 stores making their Kansai debut and 50 stores in new formats. B2, B1 and the 10th floor will be food sales and restaurant floors, while floors 1 to 6 will be cosmetics, fashion and jewelry floors. To provide visitors with a place to relax, a terrace will be set up on the 7th floor, offering an oasis of greenery in the city.
The grand opening of the North Building, which will house Parco and a shopping arcade, is scheduled for spring 2021. Eventually, an extension will be constructed above Daihoji Street, connecting the Main Building and North Building, connecting floors 2 to 10 of both buildings.

The old main building was designed by William Merrell Vories, who left a significant mark on modern Japanese architecture. This reconstruction has recreated this famous piece of architecture using the latest technology. Reusable components from the old main building, which is both a symbol of the city and of historical value, have been reused, while difficult-to-reproduce components have been reproduced using molds of the original.
In addition, a large LED monitor device called "D-WALL (tentative name)," approximately 50 meters high and 4 meters wide, has been installed beside the escalators on the 1st to 10th floors. It will serve as a symbol of the new main building, born from the fusion of Vories's architecture and digital technology. In addition, a total of 42 digital signage displays have been installed across all floors, providing a smooth shopping experience with various guidance displays.

The design-themed event "OSAKA x MILANO DESIGN LINK" has also been launched. Forming a partnership with Milano Fuorisalone, the world's largest design event held in Milan, Osaka's sister city, the store is launching a new design festival in the Shinsaibashi area, aiming for long-term growth. This year, the first year of the event, special content from Milano Fuorisalone will be featured in multiple areas of Shinsaibashi, centered around the main building. In addition, Daimaru Shinsaibashi will add its own unique offerings that combine fashion and design, livening up the building and the area.
