The spring issue of Shiseido's corporate culture magazine, Hanatsubaki, was published on January 15th. It will be distributed free of charge at Shiseido-affiliated facilities and approximately 50 bookstores nationwide (as of January 10th).
The theme of the spring issue of Hanatsubaki, featuring a cover by Ina Jang, a Korean-born photographer who is a star player in fashion and contemporary photography, is "We Love Photographs!" The opening feature showcases photographs captured by three globally active photographers: Ina Jang, Schertens & Abenes, and Ayaka Yamamoto, capturing moments they consider beautiful. The issue also includes interviews with these three photographers, exploring their unique perspectives and approaches, explaining how their works were created, the beauty they embodied, and why they chose photography as their creative medium.
Other features include introductions to favorite photobooks by 19 diverse artists, including Tamaki Roy, Ozaki Sekaikan, Kasai Kaoru, Kikuchi Naruyoshi, Kobayashi Erika, Nishi Kanako, Hasunuma Shuta, Haruna Lemon, Furuta Yasuko, Mizuno Manabu, Mori Hikari, and Ruka, as well as an original essay on photography by novelist Shibasaki Tomoka, making this issue a focus on photography from Hanatsubaki's perspective.
The serialized interview also features designer Aoki Akiko, winner of the 2018 Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award. In the talk show "Salon de Bar Hanatsubaki," Chara plays the role of a bar hostess, and welcomes actor and photographer Takumi Saito as a guest to discuss photography.
The Hanatsubaki Bunko special supplement includes an original Hanatsubaki collection of poems by Kotoriko Kusama, chosen by readers in the "1st Your Poem of the Month" poll from the 12 poems introduced in "Poem of the Month - Which poem has stayed in your heart?" (published on Web Hanatsubaki from June 2017 to May 2018).
