Nike has collaborated for the first time with London-based menswear designer Martine Rose. The capsule collection, consisting of tracksuits, football jerseys, and a newly designed Nike Air Monarch shoe, will be released on January 12th.

Like Rose's other designs, this collection embodies her design philosophy of making use of distorted proportions to find extraordinary elements in the ordinary and transform them into "truly exceptional things." The tracksuit and football shirt are designed to fit basketball players' standards and incorporate elements of British subculture. The shoe is based on the Nike Air Monarch, which Rose describes as a "very American shoe," but with a distinctive design that allows parts of the foam to extend beyond the base and the heel to protrude beyond the sole. "I purposely chose the Nike Air Monarch, a very American shoe, as the base and combined it with the very British silhouette of the tracksuit," Rose said.
In recent years, sportswear silhouettes have become ubiquitous, appearing not only on the street but also on Paris fashion shows. Rose believes this isn't just a trend, but also because of an emotional connection. " "Sportswear has long been a part of youth movements in the UK, the US and elsewhere. This widespread acceptance makes it interesting, and it can be combined with all kinds of clothing in your wardrobe. I'm really interested in how people relate to their clothes. It speaks to who they are and who they want to be. There's something emotional about that."
