From May 20th to 26th, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store is hosting an event called "YOHJI YAMAMOTO x Mayotae" in the central hall on the first floor of the main building, which offers styling suggestions that combine the creations of Yohji Yamamoto with the Mitsukoshi Isetan exclusive hemp cloth "majotae."
Mayotae is a new material that brings hemp cloth, a fabric that has existed in Japan since ancient times, back to life in the modern era. It was developed by the Avex Group, Shinichiro Yoshida, director of the Early Modern Azabu Research Institute, and Genbei Yamaguchi, the 10th generation head of Kyoto obi craftsman Kondaya and an expert on the appeal of Japanese fabrics. Compared to cotton, Mayotae dries quickly, has excellent heat retention, and is strong, yet softens and becomes more comfortable with repeated use.
Commenting on this event, Kameda Mari, head of the women's and children's clothing department at the store, said, "By combining Yohji Yamamoto's beautiful form with Mitsukoshi Isetan's Asoyo materials, we have been able to create a new value that is both refreshing and visually beautiful, and is perfect for Japan's upcoming summer weather."
