The winter issue of Shiseido's corporate culture magazine, Hanatsubaki, will be published on October 15th.
It will be distributed free of charge at Shiseido-affiliated facilities and approximately 50 bookstores nationwide (as of October 11th).

The theme of the winter issue of Hanatsubaki is "Light and Shadow." The opening feature features a photo story titled "The Girls, Pure and Radical: The Fearlessness and Innocence of Tokyo Girls," shot by Petra Collins, a young artist at the forefront of girly culture and new-age feminism, inspired by Japanese subculture of the 1970s and capturing the dark and light sides of modern Japanese girls.
Other features include an essay on elegance by Serge Lutens, the creative director and founder of SERGE LUTENS, a luxury fragrance and makeup brand within the Shiseido Group, and photographs by three up-and-coming photographers capturing the light and shadows of everyday Paris.

The series also features an interview series in which Nakajo Masayoshi, who served as art director of Hanatsubaki magazine for over 40 years, discusses the publication of a collection of his work this fall with graphic designers Kaoru Kasai and Kazunari Hattori, who edited the collection. In the talk show "Salon de Bar Hanatsubaki," in which Chara plays the role of a bar hostess, she welcomes guest Mitsushima Hikari and discusses the theme of "light and shadow," the origin of the name "Hikari," and her life since going independent from her agency.
In addition, the Hanatsubaki Bunko special supplement includes "The Beauty of Fukuhara Shinzo." Written by Takeda Sunaetsu, this book explores the concept of "beauty" conveyed by Fukuhara Shinzo, Shiseido's first president and photographer.
