■ "Hot Mirror" by Viviane Sassen

This exhibition catalog looks back on the work of Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen, who is internationally acclaimed both as a fashion photographer and an artist, over the past decade, including new works from 2017-18 and previously unpublished works. With a particular focus on fine art photography, the book illuminates the "surrealist" currents in her work.

Viviane Sassen has acknowledged Surrealism as one of her earliest artistic influences, which can be seen in the strange shadows, fragmented bodies, and imaginary landscapes in her work.

This unique book features essays and interviews tucked between pages of images from her acclaimed series "Umbra," "Flamboya," a return to her childhood in Kenya, "Parasomnia," an exploration of dreamlike sleep, "Roxane," a series created with her muse, Roxane, "Of Lotus and Mud," which explores childbirth and fertility, and "Pikin Slee," a journey to a remote part of Suriname.
