To commemorate the performance of author Ishimure Michiko's new Noh play, a pop-up event featuring Ishimure and dyeing and weaving artist Shimura Fukumi, who oversaw the play's costumes, entitled "The World of New Noh 'Okimiya' - Author Ishimure Michiko x Dyeing and Weaving Artist Shimura Fukumi," will be held from September 5th to 11th at a special venue on the second floor of JR Kyoto Isetan.

Noh is one of Japan's most representative traditional performing arts. Author Ishimure Michiko, who passed away in February of this year, and dyeing and weaving artist Shimura Fukumi, a Living National Treasure, shared a common belief that "now is the time to pass on this tradition," and created the new Noh play "Okimiya" as a final message to the next generation. Set in Amakusa, Kumamoto, where the original author, Ishimure Michiko, grew up, this tale of death and rebirth revolves around Amakusa Shiro and his foster brother Aya. Costumes were supervised by Shimura Fukumi, and the play is performed by the Kongo School of Noh, one of Kyoto's leading schools.
To commemorate the performances starting in October, this event will sell items related to Ishimure and Shimura. Each framed item (32,400 yen each) features a small piece of fabric from the costume used in "Okimiya," dyed with natural plants and handwoven under Shimura's supervision. Each is a one-of-a-kind, precious item. The vibrant frames are perfect for adding color to any room.
In addition, minä perhonen has collaborated with Atelier Shimura, headed by Shimura's grandson, Shoji Shimura, which expresses the colorful world of plants through dyeing and weaving. Resized business card holders and sukiya-style bags will be available exclusively at JR Kyoto Isetan. These collaboration items and Atelier Shimura products will be available at Re-Style on the 5th floor of JR Kyoto Isetan.
In addition, starting at 2:00 PM on September 8th, a special talk show will be held with Atelier Shimura's Shoji Shimura and Kongo Ryukin, the young head of the Kongo School of Noh, who will be performing the dance in "Okimiya."
