■ "days 2014-2018: Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone—Take your time, it won't be long now" by Nara Yoshitomo

For Nara, capturing photographs that capture often overlooked landscapes and the value of life, without the intention of publishing them as artwork, has always been an act of recording and honing his own sensibilities. These records and memories, accompany the deep introspection and dialogue that underpin the creative process, capture countless moments scattered throughout the changing seasons. Nara's photographs, capturing diverse climates, music, life, history, landscapes, and people, reveal the artist's ongoing journey and gaze in pure images. From film to digital and now to iPhone, each subject, intuitively captured with the camera most familiar to him at any given time, is always treated equally, unconsciously connected to each other, presenting a unique worldview. Underlying these images are primal landscapes as memories that unfold beyond a time that cannot be recaptured, the unique self-identity and longing for a personal world that is characteristic of childhood. These experiences, through their cultivated sensibilities, eventually lead to a journey in search of a new home. Nara's gaze seems to observe how personal experiences lead the individual back through time and place, circling him toward a more fundamental way of being in the world. This book is an exhibition catalog for a solo exhibition of photographs taken by Nara Yoshitomo over a period of approximately five years, starting in 2014.
