A digital art garden of light and mist appears at Tokyo Midtown! Experience the coolness of a Japanese summer in the middle of the city

Event Date:2018.07.13-08.26
May 28, 2018
"MIDTOWN LOVES SUMMER 2018" will be held at Tokyo Midtown from July 13th to August 26th, allowing visitors to experience the "coolness of a Japanese summer" in the heart of the city.

Light and Fog Digital Art Garden Image

The event, themed "Coolness of a Japanese Summer," offers a space where visitors can experience summertime traditions like fireworks, footbaths, and wind chimes in a uniquely urban setting. The main event, a digital art space called "Light and Fog Digital Art Garden," will be set up on the lawn plaza. At night, the garden and veranda are enveloped in mist, and colorful lights reminiscent of fireworks are cast from the rocks scattered throughout the garden. The event is being produced by visual design studio "WOW," which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

ASHIMIZU
The 9th annual "ASHIMIZU" event will also be held at the same time. Dip your feet in the stream that flows through Midtown Garden, enjoy the cool shade of the round windows made of washi paper during the day, and enjoy the fantastical, coolly lit-up space at night. Experience the "cool Japanese evening" right in the heart of the city.

Wind-Blind Image

Also, the annual wind chime-themed object will be making its return this year. This year's exhibition, the seventh in its series, is the work of art director Yuto Tamura, winner of the 2017 Tokyo Midtown Award, a design and art competition hosted by Tokyo Midtown. Inspired by traditional Japanese blinds, the piece creates a space that allows you to feel the breeze with all five senses, creating a cool space both visually and sound-wise. Also on display will be a variety of wind chimes from across Japan, including Edo-style and Nanbu-style wind chimes.

Smirnoff Midpark Cafe Last Year's Event

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, "SMIRNOFF® MIDPARK CAFE" is collaborating with the globally popular vodka brand, "Smirnoff®." Enjoy exclusive, special Smirnoff cocktails and specially selected dishes, such as "Smoked BBQ Roast Beef" and "Smoked Salmon Grilled on a Cedar Plank," perfect for sharing with a group of two or three.

Roppongi Uchimizu Campaign: Last Year's Scene
Uchimizu is the act of sprinkling water on gardens and roads to cool off. Since 2007, Tokyo Midtown has been holding this event every year on "Daisho no Hi" (Great Summer Day) in collaboration with the local Roppongi neighborhood association and the Shopping District Promotion Association, and it is attended by many people. This year's departure ceremony will begin at 5:40 pm on July 23rd. It will be held from around Roppongi Crossing along Gaien Higashi Dori.
