To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Chihiro Iwasaki's birth, the Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo in Nerima, Tokyo, will be holding the "Life Exhibition: Enjoying Wearing Spoken Words Project" in collaboration with designer Masahiro Tobita's spoken words project from May 19th to July 22nd.

Designer Tobita Masahiro's Spoken Words Project is a fashion brand renowned for its hand-dyed and printed clothing. This time, the brand has focused on Chihiro's sensibility, such as her skillful lines, watercolor techniques, and her strong and resilient feminine lifestyle, and has created new fabrics and clothing based on images of her paintings and people. Chihiro's worldview is revived as contemporary fashion.

Chihiro Iwasaki's clothes, such as handmade puff-sleeve dresses and chic custom-made suits, have a unique modernity that is not swayed by passing trends, and an understated elegance. This exhibition displays her favorite clothes alongside watercolors and sketches, exploring Chihiro's sense of style through these paintings and clothes.

Tobita explains that the reason the colors in Chihiro's watercolors are so fresh is because she knows exactly when to stop. The point at which to stop the colors from bleeding and mixing is similar to the expression used in dyeing fabric. The brand is creating new textiles inspired by Chihiro's watercolors. During the exhibition, the museum shop will be selling the "Chihiro Collection 2018" clothing designed by the brand. In addition, the brand will be holding a workshop on June 23rd from 1pm to 4pm for elementary school students and above who can use a needle and thread independently. Gallery talks will also be held on the first and third Saturday of each month from 2pm.
