Golden Week finally began this weekend, so what will you be doing this year?

A number of highly anticipated exhibitions are starting up in Tokyo and its surrounding areas. There are also outdoor events perfect for the holiday season! Following on from our previous Golden Week outing summary, "5 New Attractions in Tokyo," this time we've compiled a list of 10 recommended spots you can visit right now.


A string of noteworthy exhibitions kick off in time for Golden Week


Tetsuko Kuroyanagi & Keiji Tagawa's "SU・TE・KI!" Exhibition Comes to Yokohama (Until May 7th)

The "SU・TE・KI!" Exhibition, featuring the exquisite collections of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi and Keiji Tagawa, which was held to great acclaim at Nihonbashi Takashimaya, is now on view at the Yokohama Takashimaya Gallery until May 7th. Their desire to share with as many people as possible the splendor of "SU・TE・KI!" and to preserve it for future generations...is embodied in this exhibition, which also features previously unreleased pieces from the collection.



A solo exhibition bringing together new and recent works by Yoichi Ochiai is currently being held (until June 28th)

Based on the motif of "computer nature," the thesis of Yoichi Ochiai's recent work, the solo exhibition "Ochiai Yoichi, Beautiful Scenery ∽ Peace of Mind ∽ Computer Nature," which consists of a total of 15 works, including new and recent works, is being held at GYLE in Omotesando until June 28th. Works will also be on display in GYLE's atrium space until May 13th, so don't miss it.



Asami Kiyokawa's "Beauty Collection" exhibition. New works by Yuriyan Retriever, Akiko Wada, KOM_I, and Koharu Sugawara (until May 6th)

Asami Kiyokawa's solo exhibition "ADASTRIA Beauty Collection" by ASAMI KIYOKAWA has opened at Space O in Omotesando Hills. This solo exhibition focuses on Asami Kiyokawa's signature work, "Beauty Collection." The highlight of the event will be the new, first public showing of Asami Kiyokawa's "collection" of Wednesday Campanella's KOM_I, Sugawara Koharu, Yuriyan Retriever, and Wada Akiko as the most popular beauties of the moment. There will also be over 100 other "beauty collection" works, the first public showing of the latest works from other series, and a talk show with Kiyokawa and Yuriyan Retriever.



Actress NON to hold first solo exhibition as an artist! (Until May 8th)

Born in 1993, NON is a "creative artist" who has worked in a variety of fields, including as an actress, model, voice actress and musician. Her first solo exhibition, "NON's Solo Exhibition - Girls Bare Their Fangs," is currently being held at Gallery X by Parco on Spain Hill in Shibuya. The venue will feature original drawings, three-dimensional works, installations and self-made costumes based on the concept of "Girls Bare Their Fangs." One of the highlights will be a photographic piece in which Non herself has used her body to create a performance. In addition to providing an explanation of the art, the piece also contains a message from Non, asking viewers to enjoy the work with a free and open mind.




Yosei Bakudan Kukki's "Super Kukki Land" is more powerful than ever and is coming to Ikebukuro! (Until 5/20)

Kukki's worldview of insanity was on a global level...Yosei Bakudan Kukki's craziest exhibition yet, "Super Kukki Land neoneo," has opened at Parco Museum on the 7th floor of Parco Ikebukuro Main Building. The exhibition first began in Harajuku in October last year and was held in Taiwan in March this year, attracting 100,000 people in just one month. This time, in addition to works created in collaboration with creators such as Yoshida Yuni, new works will be on display, including the world premiere of "Cecena-chan's Girl's Room" and the Japan premiere of "Taiwan Outing Photos."



The spectacular "Japan in Architecture" exhibition, supervised by architect Fujimoto Terunobu, explores the essence of Japanese architecture in its entirety at Mori Art Museum (until September 17th)

The "Japan in Architecture: What Its Genes Bring" exhibition is currently being held at the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills. As the subtitle suggests, "What its genes bring," this exhibition will allow you to gain a deep understanding of how contemporary Japanese architecture is based on ancient traditions through a total of 100 projects and over 400 exhibits. Among these, you can even enter the national treasure, Tai-an, a tea house by Sen no Rikyu, which has been recreated in full scale as an ancient Japanese craft. We hope you will experience the genes of beautiful Japanese architecture, which are composed of a space the size of just two tatami mats.



"PEEKABOO," a solo exhibition featuring Gokita Tomoo's latest works @ Tokyo Opera City (until June 24th)

Painter Gokita Tomoo, who recently held a large-scale exhibition at the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art in 2014, is currently holding a solo exhibition at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in Hatsudai until June 24th. The exhibition features around 50 works from 2000 onwards, including his latest works. Furthermore, until May 10th, an exhibition focusing on the "History on paper" series is being held at H.P.FRANCE WINDOW GALLERY MARUNOUCHI in Marunouchi, so keep an eye out for his activities in 2018.

Mitsuaki Iwago's photo exhibition "Cat Walking Around the World" is back. Cats of the World Gather (May 2nd - May 14th)

The second photo exhibition of "Iwago Mitsuaki's World Cat Walk," a program on NHK BS Premium by photographer Iwago Mitsuaki, who has been photographing cats as his life's work for over 40 years, will be held. This time, the exhibition will feature a huge amount of photos, including White's Rice, the mascot cat of a pizza restaurant in New York, and approximately 170 works of cats carefully selected from over 60 locations around the world. A must-see for cat lovers.

Works that tell the history of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, including works by Yoshitomo Nara, Kohei Nawa, and Nobuyoshi Araki, all in one place (until June 3rd)

The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art is currently hosting "Enchanted by Contemporary Art: An Exhibition from the Hara Museum Collection by Toshio Hara," curated by founder and director Toshio Hara. The exhibition is divided into two parts, with the second part currently underway. Works by Masako Ando, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jan Fabre, Yasumasa Morimura, Yoshitomo Nara, Kohei Nawa, Mika Ninagawa, Rika Noguchi, Malick Sidibé, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Miwa Yanagi, and others are on display.

Watch a movie by the sea while watching the night view. Cinema Events at Two Minato Mirai Locations(May 2-6)


SEASIDE CINEMA, an outdoor theater event where you can enjoy movies while overlooking the Minato Mirai nightscape, will be held at two locations: Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and Marine & Walk Yokohama. Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, with its "family movie" theme, will screen films such as "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" and "Paddington." Meanwhile, Marine & Walk Yokohama, with its "sea and music" theme, will screen films such as "Oceans" and "Stand by Me" on a rotating schedule throughout the event.
