■ "The Louisiana Book" by Rineke Dijkstra

Rineke Dijkstra is a female photographer born in Sittard, Netherlands in 1959. She has been active internationally since the 1990s, focusing on a series of color portraits of growing teenagers, refugee children, and others, capturing moments of identity. Considered one of the leading figures in contemporary portrait photography, she was recently awarded the Hasselblad International Photography Award in 2017.

This book is a monograph published in 2017 to accompany the retrospective of photographer Rineke Dijkstra, which is on view at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and the De Pont Museum in the Netherlands through March 10th.

Using a 4x5 field camera, Dijkstra strictly maintains the format of photographing subjects from the front or at a 3/4 angle, and includes portraits of children at the beach, mothers just after giving birth, teenage Israeli soldiers, and wounded bullfighters.

The "Beach Portraits" series, which she worked on over 20 years from 1992 to 2012, is particularly popular for its subtle expressions of adolescent boys and girls.
