Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, a luxurious historic lakeside resort on Austria's Lake Fuschl, to open in late 2023

Aug 14, 2022
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® has been entrusted by Arabella Hospitality SE, a subsidiary of the Schörghuber Corporate Group, to manage Austria's legendary Hotel Schloss Fuschl, which is scheduled to reopen in late 2023. Ideally located on the shores of Lake Fuschl, the elegant historic property evokes a fairytale castle and has welcomed distinguished guests for centuries. The new resort marks Rosewood's second property in Austria, following the recent opening of Rosewood Vienna, and adds to the brand's robust development lineup across Europe and German-speaking markets.

The revitalization of this 15th-century landmark not only adds to Rosewood's unique collection of ultra-luxury properties, but also cements the brand's position as a meticulous and thoughtful guardian of some of the world's most iconic heritage buildings. From Paris to Madrid, New York to London and beyond, these historic buildings have been sensitively restored to their former grandeur, positioned to write distinct chapters in their stories.

"We are pleased to continue our growth in Austria with the addition of this beautiful, tranquil lakeside property. Complementing the opening of Rosewood Vienna, this property expands our presence in this renowned destination with a unique resort proposition. The revitalization and restoration of historic spaces has become an integral part of Rosewood's brand DNA, and we are honored to be entrusted with continuing the legacy of this distinguished property."

Comment from Sonia Chen, CEO, Rosewood Hotel Group

Nestled on the shores of turquoise Lake Fuschl and surrounded by mountains and forests, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is just a short distance from picturesque Salzburg, a city renowned for its history, culture, and music. A comprehensive renovation will begin in 2022, updating the structure and grounds to feature 98 artfully appointed guest rooms, including 46 suites and 6 challets. Additionally, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl will feature Asaya, Rosewood's integrative wellness concept, with a world-class restaurant and lounge, eight treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a fitness center.

First occupied as a hotel space in 1954, Hotel Schloss Fuschl's original structure dates back to 1450 and was originally built as a castle, a country residence for Austrian royalty. Throughout its legendary history, the resort has been celebrated as an elegant and tranquil retreat for sophisticated travelers, from movie stars to international dignitaries. Its silhouette has time become synonymous with majesty and glory.

The property marks the second partnership between Arabella Hospitality and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, with the two brands currently collaborating on the debut of Rosewood Munich. The two groups are celebrating the intersection of old and new, preserving Rosewood Schloss Fuschl's profound heritage while modernizing the resort experience and adhering to Rosewood's guiding "A Sense of Place®" concept.

"My family is once again making a significant investment in the essence of this magical place and its soul. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is the perfect partner for Schloss Fuschl, and with their Sense of Place philosophy, they will lead our hotel into a new and brilliant era, strengthening and expanding its position as both a prestigious hospitality home and an important economic contributor to Salzburg."

Comment from Florian Schörghuber, Co-CEO of Schörghuber Corporate Group:

"As hoteliers, we are delighted to entrust the management of Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, in addition to Rosewood Munich, to our internationally renowned partner. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is the perfect luxury hotel brand for this tradition-rich castle in its spectacular location on Lake Fuschl. Together, we will build a European luxury hotel following the extensive renovation." We are confident that they will successfully position themselves in the resort sector. Rosewood's values and culture are an excellent fit with our own. We are already looking forward to welcoming our first guests from around the world to Munich and Lake Fuschl."
Karl-Heinz Pawlizki, Chief Executive Officer of Arabella Hospitality, said:

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl marks the latest hotel launch for the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts brand, joining a robust lineup of upcoming projects in Amsterdam, Munich, Rome, London, and Venice. Rosewood Schloss Fuschl joins the brand's existing portfolio of hotels and resorts across Europe, including Rosewood Vienna; Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany; Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel in Paris; Rosewood Villa Magna in Madrid; and Rosewood London.
