Natsumi Hirajima February issue, 2017©︎ Akiko Isobe, Courtesy of G/P galleryPhotographer Akiko Isobe's solo exhibition "LANDMARK" is being held at G/P gallery in Ebisu, Tokyo from January 6th to February 3rd.
Akiko Isobe began her creative career while studying at the Department of Film and Media, Faculty of Art and Design, Musashino Art University. Her eccentric and quirky style, which is mainly produced through studio work and constructed photography, is far removed from the current commercial world, where styles that pretend to be natural are mainstream, but it has garnered a great deal of support.
This exhibition features gravure photographs of female idols and celebrities taken specifically for the cover of the monthly magazine Cyzo. In addition to the models posing for the photos, the images, which capture parts or fragments of their bodies as mere objects, suggest that the artist is challenging herself with new images of the body that transcend gender while respecting existing commercial values.
