Aug 3, 2022
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® will open Rosewood Vienna on August 1, marking the fifth European property in the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® portfolio and the brand's first property in a German-speaking market. Located in Vienna's most famous square, St. Peter's Square, near the Graben district, renowned for its luxury shopping and dining, Kohlmarktstrasse, and Tuchlaubenstrasse, the hotel is close to many of Vienna's cultural and historical attractions.

Rosewood Vienna will join the acclaimed Rosewood European collection, which also includes Rosewood London; Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany; Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel in Paris; and Rosewood Villa Magna in Madrid.

The Rosewood Vienna is the former headquarters of the renowned financial institution, Erste Group Bank AG, which has been renovated and reborn as the Rosewood Vienna. This 19th-century landmark building features historic and authentic architecture, including the apartment where Mozart once lived and composed "Abduction from the Seraglio." The former bank has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel with 71 spacious rooms and 28 suites. The brasserie and rooftop bar on the 6th floor offer spectacular views of Vienna's Old Town. Rosewood Vienna will feature the holistic wellness Asaya Spa, opening in September 2022, featuring therapies and spa treatments inspired by Austrian wellness traditions.

Rosewood's distinctive service style and the brand's signature Sense of Place® philosophy define Vienna as the destination of choice for new and long-time Rosewood guests, with qualities of timeless grace, elegance and majestic charm.

"The opening of Rosewood Vienna offers today's ultra-luxury traveler a new way to experience the Viennese lifestyle, steeped in the destination's rich history and featuring the modern, cosmopolitan vistas of a dynamic European capital. We are thrilled to open the doors to a distinctive hospitality experience in one of the world's greatest cities."

Comment from Alexander Lahmer, Managing Director

The Allure of Viennese Culture
Vienna conveys the rich heritage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, serves as the international gateway to Eastern Europe, and is also the epitome of a modern, global capital. Within easy reach of the hotel, the Old Town is home to the Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg Palace, and the heart of the House of Hapsburg, home to a dazzling collection of silver, porcelain, tapestries, furniture, and art, including works by the great masters housed in the nearby Kunsthistorisches Museum. More than one million prints and paintings, spanning the late Gothic period to the present day, are part of the Albertina's all-time must-see treasures. The Upper Belvedere Palace is a showcase of Viennese Modernism, housing masterpieces by Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, and Gustav Klimt, including Klimt's dazzling painting, "The Kiss." Influenced by Vienna's rich artistic heritage, visual arts are a hallmark of Rosewood Vienna, with works by contemporary artists featured in guest rooms and throughout the property. A provocative mural by Austrian artist Marie Hartig adorns Salon Aurelie, the hotel's dazzling lobby lounge. Inspired by Vienna's magnificent Palmenhaus (Palm House), guests can enjoy the ambiance of a chic Viennese coffee house with decorative palm fronds, flora, and butterflies in the Art Nouveau greenhouse.

Vienna, the city of music, offers musical experiences in churches and palaces, concert halls, and theaters. Two of the world's greatest performing arts organizations, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera, perform in the magnificent venues of the Musikverein and the Vienna State Opera, respectively, on the famous Ringstrasse. The State Opera is also the venue for the Vienna Opera Ball, a traditional Viennese event held each February, the most extravagant of the ball season's more than 400 balls.

Modern yet Timeless Design
This imposing, 1835 neoclassical bank building, designed by Austrian architect Alois Pichl, has been transformed into a 21st-century luxury hotel by two Viennese architectural firms, A2K and BEHF, with decor by London interior design studio Alexander Waterworth. Viennese firm Kroenland created the brasserie and rooftop bar on the sixth and seventh floors, spaces that take advantage of the hotel's unparalleled location. Architects, designers, and craftsmen created the restaurant, bar, wellness center, meeting rooms, and other spaces, celebrating Viennese identity with a contemporary perspective. The restaurant, Neue Hoheit, features classic Austrian woodwork reminiscent of Vienna's legendary coffee houses and cafés. Located on the fifth and sixth floors, Assaya offers views of Vienna's rooftops, featuring a soothing color palette of light blue, gray, ecru, and greige, and contemporary lighting by acclaimed Viennese manufacturer Bakalowits.

Residential Style
Interior designer Alexander Waterworth has created a luxurious residence that serves as a home away from home. A warm and sophisticated style is infused into the 71 rooms and 28 suites across four floors of the seven-story hotel. The rooms' neutral color palette infuses warmth and elegant refinement, providing a backdrop for rich details such as handcrafted copper wall lights inspired by the edelweiss, a flower of the Austrian Alps. The light-filled space reflects the cosmopolitan capital's unique heritage and design style, featuring custom touches such as walnut, leather, a minibar accented with locally sourced ash-white marble, and a luxurious bathroom featuring bespoke lighting from a leading Viennese manufacturer. Unique fabrics from Backhausen, the prestigious firm founded in 1849 and renowned for its Vienna Secession patterns, complete the look, from curtains to chairs, tissue boxes, and bedside notepads. In collaboration with curated art and styling agency Atelier27, the space features commissioned works from leading international artists, including illustrations, vintage gold leaf prints, photography, papercuts, lithographs, and wall sculptures.

The Presidential Suite, Hoffman House, is named after the visionary Viennese modernist architect and designer, founder of the avant-garde design firm Wiener Werkstätte. This majestic, approximately 170-square-meter suite includes a master bedroom, living room, entertainment area, dining room for eight, and kitchen. This luxurious suite is permeated with Viennese touches, from the chandeliers commissioned by renowned firm J.L. Lobmeyr to fabrics by Backhausen and bathroom appointments based on Wiener Werkstätte designs. The living room offers unparalleled views of St. Peter's Square from its French-style balcony. Suites on the third floor offer ultimate privacy with their separate entrance on Milchgasse. The Hoffmann House can be connected to up to seven guest rooms. The suites are decorated with commissioned art and sculptures, as well as glasswork and objects by European artists that enhance the sense of place.

A New Culinary Destination
The culinary influence of Vienna, long a cultural crossroads, is realized in a completely original way at Neu Hohheit (New Highness), the sixth-floor restaurant at Rosewood Vienna. The brasserie serves European cuisine alongside traditional Austrian dishes based on seasonal ingredients from local markets. Additionally, beef, fish, and vegetables cooked on a Josper grill are paired with charcuterie and seafood. Neu Hohheit's dining room and show kitchen offer diners distinctive, interconnected spaces and al fresco dining. Neu Hohheit offers vibrant views of the Old Town's rooftops and St. Peter's and St. Stephen's Cathedrals. The rooftop cocktail bar on the seventh floor draws inspiration from the classic speakeasy. Designed by interior designer Kroenland, the intimate bar features handcrafted cabinets housing a collection of precious vintage and international spirits, and a menu of classic and innovative cocktails ensuring an intimate and unforgettable evening.

The entrance to Neu Hohheit Brasserie & Bar is located on Tuflaubenstrasse, with elevators providing direct access to the restaurant, Garden Room, and Secret Garden on the sixth floor, and the rooftop bar on the seventh floor. With its unique setting, Neu Hohheit Brasserie & Bar is set to become the epicenter of gastronomy and nightlife for Vienna residents and hotel guests, while Salon Aurelie offers an elegant, modern Viennese coffee house experience in the hotel's palatial lobby space, serving light snacks and beverages ranging from finger-sized sandwiches, pastries, and cakes to tea and aperitifs.

A Serene Wellness Offering
Asaya Spa, the first at a Rosewood property outside of Asia, will span the fifth and sixth floors of Rosewood Vienna and offer four treatment rooms, a social suite, a relaxation area, a steam bath, and an experience shower. Offering rare views of St. Peter's dome and bell tower, Asaya Spa at Rosewood Vienna will offer a wide range of Viennese-inspired therapies, spa treatments, and wellness programs.

A New Meeting Space
Located on the first floor, Rosewood Vienna's Pavilion is a suite of elegant spaces for social events and business meetings. Designed to accommodate up to 110 guests across four rooms, it can be configured for anything from boardrooms to receptions. State-of-the-art technology is available to meet all audiovisual requirements. For outdoor gatherings, the Garden Room and Secret Garden on the sixth floor offer indoor and outdoor spaces for up to 60 guests.

Unique Experiences, Exclusive Access
Vienna is filled with a wealth of experiences, including museums, palaces, historic sites, concert halls, and theaters, all open to all visitors. Additionally, through the hotel's "Discover My Vienna" program, guests can explore the city through carefully selected cultural activities personally curated and guided by local experts. These captivating activities include shopping for Augarten porcelain, tailor-made shoe design at Scheer Boutique, and an authentic dining experience at Zur Herknerin, a traditional Austrian tavern.
