A unique photo exhibition bringing together 88 leading Japanese men, including Eikichi Yazawa, Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi, and Hitoshi Matsumoto

Event Date:2022.07.19-07.24
Jul 13, 2022
This year, photographer HIRO KIMURA will be holding an exhibition of portraits of contemporary Japanese men, taken over several years, from July 19th to July 24th. The first part, "HERO1," was a huge success last year. The second part, "HERO1," will be held at Daikanyama Hillside Forum from July 19th, 2022. This exhibition will feature black-and-white portraits of 88 men, half of the total.

Please note that this exhibition is a charity project, and all proceeds from the catalog (pamphlet) will be donated to the Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Support Foundation. The profound portraits, born from the intense and heart-wrenching interaction with the subjects, capture the beauty, sexiness, and vitality of human beings.

"Human sexuality is made up of unique experiences.
Setbacks, worries, feeling inferior.
How beautiful and merciful these special things are.
I capture the light that each individual possesses.
A portrait is a reflection of the photographer.
The other is the self, and my own sexuality is reflected.
It exists between me and the subject.
I hope you enjoy this friction here."

■HIRO KIMURA

Born in 1977. Moved to the United States in 1999 and began working as a stylist. While working with some of Japan's leading artists and collections, he became fascinated by the sensibility that develops between photographer and subject, and decided to become a photographer. He began his career from scratch as an assistant to Kazumi Kurigami, and after going independent, moved to New York. He currently works primarily in advertising, fashion, and musician photography. While he excels at sharp and stylish portrait photography, his work also reveals hidden aspects of his subjects, such as their inner selves. In recent years, he has also been active as a movie director, working on numerous music videos and TV commercials.
