Gucci has announced a collaboration with Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi. For its Spring/Summer 2018 Children's Collection, the brand will be showcasing a special collection featuring Yuko Higuchi's "Cat." Yuko Higuchi is a Tokyo-based artist whose works exude a strange and mysterious atmosphere, featuring characters reminiscent of the surreal world of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" or the dark side of Helen Beatrix Potter's "Peter Rabbit." The fantastical worldview of her work overlaps in many ways with Gucci's creative vision, leading to the creation of this collaboration. The collection features original "Cat" illustrations created exclusively for Gucci on a variety of items, including sleepsuits, jackets, T-shirts, dresses, sweatshirts, knitwear, hats, headbands, swimwear and shoes. Bibs and blankets also feature the unique illustrations. Additionally, a wide variety of leather backpacks and tote bags for boys and girls are available, featuring her illustrations.
Two different prints of Higuchi Yuko's illustrations were also incorporated into Gucci's Spring/Summer 2018 Men's and Women's collections. For men's wear, a fantastical landscape inhabited by rabbits is printed in blue on cream-colored fabric and used as the lining of a jacket, and a scarf featuring this illustration is also available. For women's wear, a different decorative illustration was used, and on the Spring/Summer 2018 runway, a shirt with the illustration printed in red on white fabric was shown. Scarves using the same print are also available in four color variations.
Items featuring Higuchi Yuko's illustrations will be available from December on the official Gucci online shop (gucci.com) and in select Gucci stores.
