Folding men's parasols made by an umbrella fabric manufacturer with a 155-year history

Jul 8, 2022
Makita Shoten Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce "Shade," its first in-house brand folding parasol.

Crafted from Gunnai-ori yarn-dyed jacquard fabric, a traditional Yamanashi weaving technique. This parasol offers both functionality and style, blocking heat, light, and UV rays. Its subdued color and elegant fabric make it ideal for business settings. This folding parasol is suitable for both sunny and rainy days, and comes in one pattern (5 color combinations).

Every year, once the rainy season ends, the heat continues, with record highs and reports of heatstroke. Parasols are often cited as a way to combat the heat. We recognize the importance and necessity of this umbrella every day, and offer a wide range of in-house products, including umbrellas suitable for both sun and rain. While men's use has increased in recent years, we often hear complaints that there aren't many stylish designs for men's umbrellas.

That's why we created "Shade," a folding umbrella suitable for both sun and rain, that combines design and functionality. Makita Shoten is both an umbrella and a fabric retailer. Leveraging our fabric-making experience, we offer a popular checkered pattern in five colors that is easy to wear for all ages. It also provides heat, light, and UV protection. Since it's suitable for both sun and rain, you can use it on both sunny and rainy days with just one umbrella.

It protects you from dangerous heat and helps you enjoy everyday business and outings in comfort.

Feature 1. Protects the user from direct sunlight

One of the greatest benefits of using a parasol is avoiding the heat. The inside of the parasol is coated in black, providing three benefits: heat protection, light blocking, and UV protection. It blocks the heat of the sun and creates a solid shade, allowing you to experience the cooling sensation of using a parasol even more. It also blocks over 90% of UV rays, which can cause blemishes and wrinkles, making it gentle on the skin. Direct sunlight in midsummer can be particularly dangerous as it poses the risk of heatstroke, so it's recommended for protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Feature 2. A simple and stylish folding umbrella for all weather conditions

The "Shade" umbrella is suitable for all weather conditions, so you can use it on both rainy and sunny days. As it is a folding umbrella, it is also easy to carry. The ribs are topless, making it easy to open and close, making it convenient for when you have a lot of luggage or when you are in the car. The fabric is made of yarn-dyed jacquard, which has beautiful color development and can express intricate patterns. When exposed to light, the sheen allows you to enjoy the color changes. The subdued colors give it a luxurious and high-quality feel.

Feature 3.Comfortable for business situations

Even in the summer, many people wear suits to work. Just like watches and shoes, umbrellas are also part of your grooming routine. Having a high-quality umbrella will help you make a good impression on clients. This is a must-have umbrella for salespeople who spend a lot of time outside, or for businessmen who don't want to sweat before important business meetings.

About Makita Shoten
Makita Shoten's fabrics are characterized by their jacquard technique, using fine-count yarns dyed before weaving, a hallmark of Gunnai textiles. In a feature on Japan's leading apparel brand, Issey Miyake, the magazine "Pen" featured the company as a manufacturer supporting the company's manufacturing. Their fabrics have also earned high praise both domestically and internationally, with their fabrics being used by major international fashion houses and for bags by the Spanish shoe brand, Camper.

Leveraging the diverse weaving techniques and know-how cultivated in fabrics and their in-house manufacturing capabilities for umbrellas, the company began producing original umbrellas featuring unique weaves. Their original umbrellas are now sold in many select shops in Tokyo and elsewhere. They have also begun working with new fields interested in umbrella fabric production, exploring the potential of umbrella fabrics, such as by using their fabrics for watch straps by the innovative watch venture brand, Knot.
