HYKE, the brand created by Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Oide, presented their 2018 Spring/Summer collection on October 19th at their showroom in Nakameguro, Tokyo, during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2018 S/S. This season marked the brand's second collection presentation at Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO, following their previous presentation. This season, they once again presented two small-scale floor shows featuring models.
HYKE's brand concept is to uniquely evolve the history and heritage of clothing through their own sensibilities. This season's inspiration came from "outdoor clothing," "military clothing," and "work clothing." They showcased designs inspired by materials and details designed for outdoor activities, such as outdoor sports clothing, military gear, and workwear, and reconstructed them with the brand's unique sensibility.
While previous collections drew inspiration from rider jackets, flight jackets, and outdoor clothing, this season's collection is based on MA-1 jackets and military wear. By changing the design to rounded, slanted sleeve pockets, sleeveless, asymmetrical, bolero, or pairing with a translucent pleated skirt, the collection takes on a completely different mood, including dressier designs. The collaboration with The North Face also garnered attention, featuring bolero-style coats and pullovers with logos on the chest and back. Even authentic outdoor sportswear, like a snakeskin-print coat, is given an elegant and powerful feel. White shirts, knitwear, and sleeveless dresses are stripped of design and feature varying lengths, creating a unique balance that creates a new look and sets them apart from existing outdoor, military, and workwear styles. This is a unique collection that is neither minimalist nor avant-garde.
