Anna Sui founded her eponymous brand in 1980. Known for creating contemporary, unique clothing inspired by extensive research into vintage styles and esoteric cultural realms, Anna Sui is one of New York City's most beloved and successful fashion designers. She broke into New York's intense cultural underground scene in the 1970s, forging important connections in the worlds of fashion, photography, art, music, and design. Born in Detroit as a Chinese-American, Anna Sui's career path truly represents the American dream. Anna says: "It's important to stay true to your dreams, even if they seem unconventional. Otherwise, how could a young girl from the suburbs of Detroit have made it in New York? This dream carried me." Before finishing her senior year of high school, she was accepted into New York's Parsons School of Design, one of the world's top three fashion schools.
