"Paul Smith loves la kagu" is a collaboration between designer Paul Smith and la kagu, a curation shop in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, and will run from October 7th to November 20th.
This collaboration came about because la kagu is one of Paul Smith's favorite shops, which he always visits whenever he visits Japan. Curated by Paul himself, the event has eight themes based on his own ideas: ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, ARCHITECTURE, FOOD, TRAVEL, GRAPHICS, MUSIC, and LOVE, and will feature exhibits of Paul's personal belongings, photographs, and selected books. The ceiling is adorned with a large collection of vintage scarves, reflecting Paul Smith's unique style. Guests can also enjoy music curated by Lakagu from playlists on Apple Music. Additionally, a special talk event (sold out) featuring Paul Smith, who will be visiting Japan on the first day of the event, will be held, where he will share stories behind the photographs on display. To commemorate the event, a number of limited-edition items featuring special artwork will also be available. These include a two-way tote bag with a shoulder strap (5 colors, ¥4,500 each) featuring the red heart collaboration logo on the front, T-shirts (5 colors, ¥8,000 each) knitted from special fabric, an original 46-size notebook (¥1,500), rabbit ceramic pieces autographed by Paul Smith (8 colors, ¥9,800 each), a 100% cotton handkerchief (¥2,000), and a mug (¥2,000). Additionally, Paul will be selling one-of-a-kind treasures from his personal collection, including a vintage leather jacket (¥200,000) he discovered at Portobello Market in West London, a place he's frequented since his teenage years; a matchbox label collection (¥50,000) from his London office; a Kodak Retinette camera (¥80,000), the first gift Paul received from his father when he was 11; a "Mr. Machine" toy (¥20,000), a hit toy in the US in the 1960s (¥20,000); two pink and blue jerseys (¥20,000 each) selected from Paul's extensive collection of cycling jerseys; a cap (¥5,000 each) he wore when he was aspiring to be a professional cyclist; and a mechanical hula girl (¥15,000) handcrafted by an artisan he acquired at a craft fair. Food and drink options will also be available, featuring Paul's favorite dishes and familiar British favorites, recreated at Madrague, the cafe on the first floor of Lakagu. The menu will include the "Hedge Salad" (800 yen with bread), a salad that Paul often orders at his favorite cafe and is the inspiration behind the menu item; "Fish & Chips" (1,400 yen), a British staple of bar-shaped French fries served with mashed peas; and "Pasta Ospedale" (1,000 yen), a penne pasta dish seasoned with butter sauce. Also available will be wines from Berry Brothers & Rudd, the venerable wine merchant and Paul Smith's favorite, "Good Ordinary Claret by Paul Smith loves la kagu RED" and "Good Ordinary Claret by Paul Smith loves la kagu WHITE" (3,000 yen each, only available in stores). A special website (http://www.lakagu.com/psloves/) will also be open for a limited time in preparation for the event.
