Oakley unveils new eyewear, the RE:SUBZERO, condensing 30 years of innovation into just 24 grams

May 15, 2022
Oakley launches a new chapter in innovation with Re:SubZero. Re:SubZero is a cutting-edge, lightweight frame perfect for running, training, and anywhere you work up a sweat to improve. Featuring Oakley's industry-defying Freeform technology, Re:SubZero showcases both the present and a bright future. Packed with innovation, this frame weighs just 24g and is so light you'll forget you're wearing it, while still fueling your progress.

Sport provides people with a pathway to a healthier, more fulfilling life. Based on this concept, Re:SubZero was born as eyewear for people who lead purely active lifestyles, not just those who run or train, but who are not limited to traditional competitive sports. With a mission to help people experience the benefits of physical activity, regardless of skill level or ultimate goal, Re:SubZero is designed for anyone who loves to move and strives to improve their life through sports. Weighing just 24g, this lightweight frame is an essential part of the ongoing challenge of self-improvement, not only during the moment of sweating in sports, but also before and afterward, and it brings everyone together through sports.

"We have a responsibility to everyone living today to use sport as a platform to inspire others to work towards better lives, better communities and ultimately a better world. Sport liberates the body and mind, brings people together, heals and inspires change," said Caio Amato, Oakley Global Head of Marketing. "Re:SubZero is the result of Oakley's dedication to freeing consumers from the weight we all experience to some degree. 30 years of dedicated innovation has resulted in a frame that weighs just 24g, making it the perfect all-around accessory for anyone striving to be their best."

This new eyewear is packed with Oakley's signature technologies, including Freeform technology, which revolutionized the eyewear industry by mimicking the structural properties of the frame to provide rigidity in key areas while allowing for a lens design that wraps around the sides of the face. Inspired by human experience and the laws of nature, this technology eliminates limitations in eyewear design and development, allowing for a seamless, mask-like fit with no lens shape restrictions.

The iconic Oakley lens attachment connects the lens, endpiece, and temples, creating an iconic, one-of-a-kind design. The unique shield lens features Prizm Lens Technology for improved color and contrast. Two nose pads with different thicknesses and depths made from patented Unobtainium® material provide a secure, snug fit.

To highlight the lightweight nature of Re:SubZero's cutting-edge technology, AR (Augmented Reality) was used to present detailed information about each element of the frame and an overview of its development to the global Oakley community, and the product was delivered in a floating chamber to symbolize its lightness.

Re:SubZero comes just weeks after the re-release of Sub Zero, which was introduced as part of the MUZM Collection, a curated collection of new interpretations of Oakley's iconic styles, incorporating current technology.

Re:SubZero will be available in stores nationwide, at the official Oakley online store and at select Oakley retailers starting May 13th. (4 types in total / 34,760 yen each)

A campaign featuring Team Oakley athletes Aori Nishimura, Aaron Jones, and Andre DeGrasse will be released on Oakley's YouTube channel.
