Dior unveiled its 2017 Cruise Collection at Blenheim Palace in England on May 31st. The inspiration for the 2017 Cruise Collection came from the postwar upper class attire and the era's pervasive enthusiasm, spirit of adventure, and desire for travel and new discoveries. The pieces express the English countryside through motifs evocative of hunting and picturesque scenes. Vibrant lipstick evokes the scarlet garb of hunters on hound hunts, while rustic tweed, rustic potpourri, figurative jacquards, and bouquets of wildflowers evoke equestrian scenes. These are combined with openwork suede, Asian silk, African prints, weaves, and embroidery to evoke a spirit of exploration, curiosity about the world, and British eccentricity.
All details are also taken from Monsieur Dior's work, and even the ribbon, one of the House's signature codes, has been untied and placed like a scarf between the décolleté and at the back, hiding or accentuating it. Other details include the "Bar" jacket, whose curves are cut to fit the body and accentuate the waist, adding a touch of Parisian silhouette and details to British inspiration.
