This film shines a light on one lawyer who threw himself into a seemingly reckless battle against a megacorporation. It meticulously depicts the process by which protagonist Rob Bilott uncovers the unbelievable fraud at DuPont. This film depicts how a small case, beginning with a farmer's heartbreaking appeal, develops into a massive environmental pollution problem affecting the entire West Virginia region. The threat of life-threatening chemicals is portrayed as a familiar threat, and Rob's relentless pursuit of the truth in the shadows is captivating.

◾️A spectacular collaboration between a world-renowned genius and a talented cast!

Mark Ruffalo, who also serves as producer and star, meticulously prepared for the role, even interviewing Rob Bilott himself, and delivers a performance filled with quiet intensity. He embodies Rob as a real person, neither a superhero nor a saint, evoking empathy. While conveying the "price of justice"—the intense pressure that comes from antagonizing one of the world's largest chemical companies, and the tremendous stress both personally and professionally—he brilliantly portrays the lawyer's unwavering commitment to helping those in need.

The supporting cast supporting Ruffalo is also packed with big names. Anne Hathaway, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for "Les Miserables," plays Rob's wife, Sarah, who is his greatest supporter. Tim Robbins, who also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for "Mystic River," plays Rob's dignified boss, Tharp. Additionally, Bill Pullman, who appeared in "Independence Day" and "Lost Highway," shows his impressive presence as a veteran lawyer who joins Rob's legal team.

Todd Haynes gladly accepted Ruffalo's direct offer to direct this film. Known for his work on "Velvet Goldmine," "Carol," and "Wonderstruck," which were selected for the Cannes Film Festival Competition, as well as "Far from Earth," which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, this film explores new territory with a socially conscious legal drama based on a true story. With international guidelines like the SDGs and ESG firmly established, and the need to build a sustainable society at large, this is a must-see true story.

■Synopsis of "Dark Waters"

In 1998, Rob Bilott, a corporate lawyer working at a prestigious Ohio law firm, receives an unexpected request for investigation. Wilbur Tennant, a farmer in Parkersburg, West Virginia, has discovered that waste from a DuPont factory, a major chemical manufacturer, has contaminated his land and caused the deaths of 190 of his cattle. Without much conviction, Rob asks the court to disclose documents related to the waste, but after researching the mysterious term "PFOA," he begins to realize the seriousness of the situation. DuPont has been concealing the dangers of a carcinogenic, toxic substance for 40 years, discharging it into the air and soil. Eventually, Rob decides to file a major class action lawsuit with 70,000 residents as plaintiffs.
