Starting January 20, 2016, three venues on the 9th floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store will feature a special on the charms of the Kanazawa, Kaga, and Noto area, which is attracting increasing attention as the first anniversary of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen approaches.
The event hall of one of the three venues will host the "Delicious, Beautiful: Kanazawa, Kaga, and Noto Exhibition" from January 20 to 26, showcasing the charms of Kaga's castle town, Daishoji, and the area around Yamanaka Onsen. The exhibition will focus on Yamanaka lacquerware from Yamanaka Onsen, one of Japan's leading lacquerware producing regions. Works that combine artisanal techniques with modern sensibilities will be featured, including those from Gato Mikio Shoten, winner of a German design award, and Ohara Bunpei Lacquerware, known for its beautiful lacquerware and delicate maki-e lacquerware. Approximately 70 other shops are scheduled to open, allowing visitors to enjoy the charms of the area, including the restaurant Yamagishi, Kaga Moriokaya, which serves grilled inari, the Japanese confectionery shop Sankaido, and Morihachi, famous Kanazawa shops, as well as the delicious delicacies of Noto. From January 20th to 25th, the Festival Square will host "Maiden's Heart-Pounding Modern Style in Kanazawa," showcasing works incorporating elements that will excite young ladies. Eight popular shops will be participating, including Kanazawa Craft Hirosaka, a select shop offering modern takes on traditional crafts, and a gallery exhibition selling accessories by young Kanazawa artists. From January 20th to 25th, the Hankyu Umeda Gallery will host the "Contemporary Kaga Kutani Artists Exhibition," focusing on Kutani ware. In addition to exhibits exploring the evolution of painting and the history of Kutani ware, as well as introducing works by contemporary artists, food space producer Tsuji Hisako will also be proposing table coordination using traditional Kaga crafts.
