Hello! Today I'd like to talk about the illustrations for the 9th Anniversary Issue of NYLON JAPAN, which was released in May.
I drew the cover and the eight-page "Kiko Mizuhara & GRIMES" page! The people at NYLON JAPAN gave me complete freedom in the illustrations, so it was a really fun job.
For this assignment, I mainly drew plants and flowers. I draw a variety of illustrations, but I especially love drawing while looking at plants, flowers, and nature, as it's so relaxing.
While people in New York are going to yoga classes to relieve stress, lose weight, and stay healthy, I relieve stress by drawing plants. Well, it's just an excuse not to go to yoga. Plus, eating cookies while drawing actually makes me gain weight.
I like plants, but I'm not really good at actually growing them. When I see flowers that are starting to look weak, I can't tell if they're not getting enough water or if I've given them too much and they're drowning, and I've often ended up making the wrong decision.
But recently I've been seeing a lot of cute succulents in interior and clothing stores in New York, so I bought one and discovered they're very easy to care for. Succulents originally grow in the desert, so I'm sure they're tough, and they can handle my indecisive way of caring for them.
If you're like me, I recommend this!
This is completely unrelated to the magazine, but next time you're at a bookstore, be sure to check out "NYLON JAPAN"!
