A solo exhibition by photographer Ina Jang, who has worked on advertisements featuring Rie Miyazawa and the magazine "Hanatsubaki," is being held.

Apr 11, 2017

New York-based Korean photographer Ina Jang's solo exhibition "Mrs. Dalloway" will be held at G/P Gallery in Ebisu, Tokyo, from April 13th to May 28th. Ina Jang has attracted attention early on for her playful photographs, which skillfully layer both physical and digital images using a cutout technique. She is currently expanding her horizons as a star player in fashion and contemporary photography. In Japan, she is best remembered for her work on the 2016 main visual for "SENCE OF PLACE," featuring actress Rie Miyazawa, and for appearing on the cover and special features of Shiseido's "Hanatsubaki." Ina Jang's new work, "Mrs. Dalloway," which will be shown at this exhibition, is a collage of fragments of modern paintings copied on negative film, alluding to the work of British author Virginia Woolf. The works are diverse, including images that resemble characters from novels, as well as images of women and still lifes found in everyday life. However, while remaining abstract and ambiguous, they also seem to elude specific image definition, making this a solo exhibition that invites viewers to explore the boundaries of various issues surrounding photography, such as originality and reproduction, gender relations between seeing and being seen, and identity and anonymity.

A talk event and reception with the artist will be held on the first day of the exhibition.
