Film director Francis Ford Coppola was born on April 7, 1939, in Michigan, USA. He is the daughter of film director Sofia Coppola and son of film director Roman Coppola.
He began making 8mm films at the age of eight and released "The Glamourous West" while studying film at UCLA. He made his directorial debut with "Dementia 13" in 1963.
He won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for "Patton" in 1970, and his 1972 film "The Godfather" was a worldwide hit. It is considered one of the greatest films of the 20th century, and three sequels were made. His 1979 film "Apocalypse Now" won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
However, his 1982 film "One from the Heart" was a box office failure. He found himself in financial difficulty, but he regained attention with his 1992 film "Dracula." Since then, he has focused on his work as a producer.
