On September 29, Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Co., Ltd. announced that its subsidiary, Isetan Mitsukoshi Co., Ltd., will open a small- to medium-sized Isetan Select Store at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo, in spring 2015. 
The company's basic strategy for its small- to medium-sized store business is to "improve the competitiveness of areas surrounding existing group department stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area and other major cities" and "create new customers in areas where there is a certain demand for department store merchandising and services" through a highly profitable and flexible format that leverages the group's uniqueness and curation capabilities. The company views its small- to medium-sized store business as a business that increases profits through efficient chain operations through multi-store expansion. The opening of the Tokyo Midtown store is part of this strategy.
In addition to traditional small satellite stores, the company has also opened external stores outside of department stores, such as ISETAN MiRROR, Isetan Haneda Store, and MI PLAZA, to suit various lifestyles and needs.
Regarding this new store, the company sees Tokyo Midtown as a large-scale complex consisting of retail stores, offices, residences, and more, and as one of Tokyo's newest landmarks visited by many highly sensitive and creative people for a variety of purposes. By opening a select store here with the salon functions of the Isetan Shinjuku store, Isetan will be able to "expand points of contact with new customers" and "achieve things that cannot be achieved in the department store format," thereby providing new value.
According to the company, the name of the new select store has not yet been decided (as of September 29, 2014). The store will have an area of approximately 900 square meters and is scheduled to open in spring 2015. The target customers are people who live in Minato Ward or the surrounding area and want to hone their sensibilities, but who have not visited department stores much in the past.
The products to be sold will mainly be women's clothing and fashion accessories, and with the product supply power of Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, which has strengths in fashion, the store will compile a selection of highly sensitive products ranging from fashion to real clothes, and will also compile a selection of exquisite goods selected from around the world, as well as sell original clothing and accessories.
