"Minna no TARO 2016," an exhibition by artist Taro Okamoto, will be held at TOBICHI (2) in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, from February 5th to 21st.
The exhibition commemorates the release of the "Hobonichi Techo" designed with Okamoto's representative works, "Tower of the Sun," and "Myth of Tomorrow." "Tower of the Sun" is a massive artwork unveiled at the 1970 Osaka World Exposition. "Myth of Tomorrow" is a massive mural measuring 5.5 meters in height and 30 meters in width.
The exhibition will feature a 2-meter-wide charcoal drawing that Okamoto is said to have drawn first when creating "Myth of Tomorrow," rare handwritten notes from Okamoto, who never carried a planner or memo pad, and the Hobonichi Techo of his partner, Toshiko Okamoto. Other exhibits include the "Giant Cup-Edge Tower of the Sun," designed by manga artist Tanaka Katsuki and produced by Kitan Club, known for the creation of "Koppu no Fuchiko." A giant panel featuring Tanaka's "Tower of the Sun" and TARO's words will also be on display. A collection of Towers of the Sun of various sizes housed at the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum, located about a five-minute walk from TOBICHI (2), will also be on display. Purchasers of the "Tower of the Sun" or "Myth of Tomorrow" design notebooks (cover only: 2,592 yen, cover and notebook set: 4,400 yen) at the venue will receive one spin of a gachapon machine, offering a selection of non-sale items from the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum. A stamp rally will also be held during the event, featuring TOBICHI (2) and the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum. Collecting a stamp at both venues will receive a special sticker.
