FENDI, the 90-year-old Roman luxury brand, participated in the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter Paris Haute Couture Collection for the first time in July. This was also a homage to Fendi's 50-year collaboration with designer Karl Lagerfeld. The grand occasion took place at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
Karl spoke ahead of the show, saying, "This will be an opportunity to see the fur of furs, the royal art of fur," and delivered a stunning runway show, true to his words.
The collection debuted in Paris this year, marking a milestone for the house, was titled "Haute Fourrure." "Fleur" means "fur," and the word "Haute Fleur" is a portmanteau of "fleur" and "haute couture."
Rather than using fur as it is, FENDI treated it as a material and utilized a variety of techniques to create a collection that transcends the realm of traditional fur products. The high level of design is the result of Fendi's highest level of creativity and craftsmanship cultivated over many years.
The furs used in the Haute Fleurs collection include Russian sable, swakara, mink, and chinchilla. Other materials used include feathers and silk taffeta, which are the ultimate in luxury. Fur is sewn together with PVC and silk taffeta, made to look like bird feathers, and metallically processed to elevate it into contemporary clothing. A variety of techniques are used to create a modern look while retaining the luxurious feel and dignity of fur.
