This film is based on the shocking true story of Norway's greatest crime of complicity in the Holocaust, the Norwegian police and citizens. It was Norwegians who took Norwegian Jews to Berg concentration camp, where they were monitored for forced labor, and then forcibly transported them to the port of Oslo, where the Danube bound for Auschwitz awaited. As a result, many of the Norwegian Jews who boarded the Danube became victims of the Holocaust at Auschwitz. Why did the happiness of the Jewish Braude family have to be taken away? By depicting a historical tragedy that may seem like a distant event through the eyes of the ordinary Braude family, the film speaks to the horror of events that are close to home for people living today.

After the game, Charles celebrates at a bar, introduces his girlfriend Ragnhild (Kristin Kuyatu Thorp) to his brothers, and enjoys a feast. However, because it is the Jewish Sabbath, an important day for the Jews, Charles, his older brother Isaac (Eilif Hartwig), and his younger brother Harry (Karl-Martin Eggesbo) rush home. Their mother, Sarah (Pija Halvorsen), is angry at their sons for arriving late, but when Charles offers a Jewish prayer and dinner begins, smiles fill the dinner table.

After dinner, Charles reveals to his mother that he has a non-Jewish fiancée, and her mother approves of the marriage, saying, "As long as you're happy, that's fine." Later, in front of his father, Bentzel (Michalis Koutsoguiannakis), who runs a sausage shop, Charles proposes to Ragnhild, and a lavish wedding party is held, marking the start of their happy married life together. However, their happy days do not last long, and the shadow of war rapidly approaches Norway.
