Cutting hair on the streets of the world: A record of one hairdresser who communicates his heart through scissors [Keibunsha Ichijoji Store Recommended Book]

Jul 1, 2015

Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the one book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Wednesday, we will introduce books recommended by Keibunsha Ichijoji Branch (10, Ichijoji Furadono-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto), a Kyoto-based shop that selects books and all things related to books.

■ "TOUCH" by Mitsumori Yoshihiro

Mitsumori Yoshihiro, who runs a hair salon in Osaka, had doubts about the way hairdressers are expressed and evaluated in existing competitions and shows, and one day decided to travel abroad. He then visited various cities around the world, opening impromptu street hair salons for the people he met there, and continuing his work as a hairstylist.

His unique communication method as a hairstylist - touching the hair of strangers he meets in foreign countries to close the gap - has gradually spread to more people, gaining support from photographers, stylists and others, and leading to the formation of the team "OTAKU," which he formed with them. In May of this year, a photo exhibition by "OTAKU" was held at FOIL GALLERY in Kyoto.

This book contains a record of his activities, including photographs that were also shown at the exhibition, along with a message. The book beautifully captures the warm atmosphere created by scissors, a communication tool that transcends language, and his own humanity, as well as the human expressions of the people.
