Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, is hosting "Ninagawa Mika x Dogo Onsen Dogo Art 2015," an art festival featuring photographer Mika Ninagawa as the main artist, in Dogo Onsen and the surrounding area. The festival will run until February 29, 2016.

This project follows on from "Dogo Onsen Art 2014," an art festival held last year to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Dogo Onsen Main Building. Continuing last year's theme, "The Oldest and the Cutting Edge," the festival will feature Mika Ninagawa as the main artist and will display a variety of art works over the 10-month period starting May 1. The event is divided into three parts. The first part, which opened in May, featured the wrapping of streetcars with a photograph by Mika Ninagawa, the main visual for the event; a lantern gate featuring Mika Ninagawa's photographs; and the installation of a tent curtain and noren curtain at the entrance to the Dogo Onsen Main Building featuring Mika Ninagawa's work. The second part, which opened in July, included the distribution of fans, graphic yukata featuring photographs of spray chrysanthemums, an exhibition of wedding dresses from Mika Ninagawa's brand, and spaces repurposed from hotel rooms and restaurants. From October 1 to February 29, 2016, the third installment of the Dogo Onsen Main Building, celebrating its 121st year since reconstruction, will be decorated with vibrant works by Mika Ninagawa. Various flower photographs will be installed on the north and north-facing glass and shoji screens, and at night, video works will be projected onto the third floor on the south side. Original Dogo Art 2015 x BEAMS eco-bags will also be distributed. Also returning is the "HOTEL HORIZONTAL" project, the main program of "Dogo Onsen Art 2014," in which artists including Mika Ninagawa, Yayoi Kusama, Akira Minagawa, and Makoto Tanijiri transformed the guest rooms of 10 hotels and inns in the Dogo area into artworks and installations that can be used as lodging. The guest rooms designed by Yayoi Kusama and Akira Minagawa will be on display until the end of August this year.
