March 27th is Quentin Tarantino's birthday.

Mar 27, 2014

Film director Quentin Tarantino was born on March 27, 1963, in Tennessee, USA.

He grew up watching movies with his film-loving mother and wrote his first screenplay at the age of 14. He dropped out of high school at 16 and joined a theater company to study acting. At 22, he became a video store clerk, spending his days writing scripts while watching countless movies.

He made his debut as a screenwriter and director with "Reservoir Dogs" (1992), which depicts a criminal group that falls apart after a jewel robbery goes awry. His follow-up, "Pulp Fiction" (1994), won the Palme d'Or (Best Picture) at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He became recognized as a leader of the new American film industry. In the 2000s, Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) and Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004), which depicted the heroine Uma Thurman's fierce battle for revenge, were huge hits. He also won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay again for Django Unchained (2012), which depicts the brutal battle of Django, a former slave who becomes a bounty hunter to win back his wife. He is also active as an actor, playing the main character in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), directed by Robert Rodriguez, for whom he also wrote the screenplay. He has also appeared in numerous other films, including Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western: Django (2007). He is a cinephile and a fan of Japanese films and anime, and these influences can be seen throughout his work. He is also known for his style of excessively talkative writing.

Earlier this year, the script for the planned Western film "The Hateful Eight" was leaked by an unknown party. Furthermore, a link to the illegally uploaded script was made public by the American IT media outlet Gawker Media. Tarantino is currently suing the company. At the same time, production on the film was called off.
