Jun 12, 2015

The Japanese edition of the French fashion magazine L'Officiel launched on October 1st. Model Sara Kunikida was chosen as the cover girl. L'Officiel was first published in France in 1921. It launched in Japan in 2005 as L'Officiel Japon, but ceased publication in 2008. This launch marks a new start, with Japan becoming the magazine's 30th country of publication. The editor-in-chief of the Japanese edition of L'Officiel is Tetsuya Mabuchi of the model agency Bon Image. The magazine's target audience is women in their 30s and 40s. Based on the editorial philosophy of "truth, goodness, and beauty," the magazine covers all aspects of adult lifestyle, from fashion and beauty to art, travel, food, and health. The magazine will feature articles from over 30 countries around the world, including France and Asia, as well as exclusive Japanese coverage. The price is 780 yen, with a planned circulation of approximately 80,000 copies. An online version will also be launched at the same time as the magazine's launch.

The cover girl is Kunikida Sara, the great-great-granddaughter of novelist Kunikida Doppo. Kunikida Sara has a Japanese mother and an Italian father, and was born in London and raised in Paris. "I want to become a model in Japan, where my roots lie," she said, and decided to come to Japan, making her debut in September 2014. She has since served as the main visual model for Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings' corporate message, "This is Japan."
