For 24 days from March 29th to April 21st, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse will be hosting "FLOWER GARDEN 2019," an event that will bring the arrival of spring to the port city of Yokohama with approximately 8,000 flowers.

Now in its 13th year, "FLOWER GARDEN" is an annual spring event celebrating the 17th anniversary of the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse's reopening in April with colorful flowers. Each year, a theme is set and spring-like flowers are used to create the display, making it a popular springtime sight in Yokohama.
This year's theme is "A Flower Garden with a Port View," allowing visitors to enjoy the greenery of Yokohama Port, which is celebrating its 160th anniversary since its opening, together with the port itself. The space between the Red Brick Warehouse, a historic building symbolizing Yokohama's port opening, is filled with vibrant flowers and plants, creating a spring-like atmosphere. A heart-shaped arch made up of pretty pink flowers such as daisies, nemesias, and snow vines greets visitors at the entrance.

Once through the entrance, visitors will find themselves surrounded by a garden filled with plants on both sides of the road that leads straight toward Yokohama Port, giving the feeling of strolling in nature. To celebrate the 17th anniversary of the museum's opening, the garden will be decorated with 17 "topiaries" based on animals such as bears and rabbits, as well as photogenic photo spots such as tipi tents and buildings modeled after animal homes. In the center of the area, visitors can spend their time as they like, lying down on the grass or sitting on a bench and gazing at the flowers.
Further on, on the sea side of the venue overlooking Yokohama Port, a large 7-meter-tall symbol tree and "Margaret Hill," decorated entirely in pink margarets, will appear, offering a view that can only be seen here, with a flower field spreading out against the backdrop of the harbor. After sunset, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the entire venue will be lit up, creating a fantastical space with a different atmosphere from the daytime.

Following on from last year, HANABAR, Japan's first dried flower cafe and bar, which combines the cultures of "flowers and food," will be located within the venue, allowing visitors to enjoy flowers using all five senses, not just their eyes. A limited-edition spring-themed menu will be available to coincide with the event, including a "Flower Cocktail" made with edible flowers, a photogenic dish called "Hana Man Gai" that combines edible flowers with Khao Man Gai, and "Flower Cookies" (one bag contains two cookies, 400 yen including tax).
"Flowers in Full Bloom! HANABAR Set" (2,000 yen including tax)

In addition, as a special linked project, a tour will be held, "Let's take a tour of the cornerstone of the 160th anniversary of the opening of Port Yokohama and the colorful flowers!" To celebrate the 160th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port, we will tour historical landmarks and tourist spots where you can experience the dramatic transformation that Yokohama has undergone since the port's opening, as well as famous flower spots where you can experience spring in Yokohama, including cherry blossoms, tulips, and roses that can only be seen at this time of year.
